M.S. 267: Well developed in all 10 quality review indicators
Middle School 267: An Exemplary School Community
We are thrilled to announce that Middle School 267 has achieved a remarkable rating of "Well Developed" in every Quality Review Category. This rigorous evaluation, conducted on December 5th and 6th, 2018, provides an independent and comprehensive assessment of our school community. During this two-day evaluation, an independent reviewer meticulously analyzed every facet of our school, from the Principal to the Teachers, Students, and Parents. By observing classrooms at random, engaging with staff, students, and parents, and collecting extensive data, the reviewer ensured that their observations were supported by concrete evidence. The Quality Review is widely recognized as one of the most thorough and honest methods of evaluating a school. It examines all the components that contribute to effective schools, ensuring an authentic and comprehensive assessment. We take immense pride in the fact that our hard work and dedication has been acknowledged through this evaluation. The findings of this review validate the tremendous progress we have made as a school community. It serves as a testament to the positive correlation between our efforts and the achievements of our scholars, as well as the overall strength of our community. We remain committed to pushing forward, striving for continuous improvement, and fostering an even stronger school community. Together, we will continue to make a lasting impact on the lives of our scholars, empowering them to reach their full potential. |
"Indeed, MS 267 has much higher test scores than school serving similar populations, according to Department of Education data. The atmosphere is calm; students are engaged; and teachers are happy to come to work. The secret of success, long-time Principal Patricia King says, is a laser focus on instruction, a range of kid-friendly clubs and activities, and a “mentor” system that matches each student with staff member.

Math & Science Regents Courses
At Middle School 267, we offer high school level Math and Science courses, focused on Advanced Regents level Algebra and Living Environment courses. Many of our students passed the Math Regents and the Living Environment Regents. These students will receive Regents Credits in High School, allowing them to save time as they will not have to retake the courses.
Specialized High School Success
Here at Middle School 267, we pride ourselves on having our scholars take the specialized high school and regents exam. Each year we have great success with our scholars passing the specialized test and attending such schools like Stuyvesant High School and Brooklyn Tech High School. Teachers put in countless hours to ensure that each student have a fair and equal opportunity to succeed on these exams. For the past several years, we have had scholars attend these and other prestigious high schools. Our students take these exams and pass with high scores, fully prepared for their journey beyond our time together.

Who takes this test?
Scholars in grades 8 or 9 who wish to apply to New York City’s Specialized high schools must take the Specialized High School Admissions Test (SHSAT) and submit an application listing their choices of schools in order of preference.
New York State, there are three types of diplomas: a local diploma, a Regents diploma, and an Advanced Regents diploma. All students can earn a Regents or Advanced Regents diploma; however only students who meet specific criteria are eligible to graduate with a local diploma, which allows students to graduate with lower exam scores. The type of diploma your child earns depends on his or her course credits and scores on specific Regents exams, as shown in the table below. An Advanced Regents diploma lets students demonstrate additional skills in math, science, and languages other than English. If you think your child is not earning the credits she or he needs to graduate, please speak to your school’s guidance counselor immediately. Keep in mind that a student may always exceed these requirements; these represent the minimum.

What is on the test?
The SHSAT is a timed multiple-choice test with two sections, verbal and math, that must be completed in a total of 2 hours and 30 minutes. In the first section, students demonstrate their verbal reasoning and reading comprehension by ordering sentences to form a coherent paragraph, answering questions of logical reasoning, and analyzing and interpreting texts. In the second section, students demonstrate their math skills by answering computational and word questions that require arithmetic, algebra, probability, statistics, geometry, and trigonometry (on the Grade 9 test only).
