ELA
English Language Arts is a critical component of education in our school. Without the ability to read, write and think critically students will struggle in Math, Science and other important subject areas. At M.S. 267, we have an amazing ELA team that works hard to give our students the foundations they need while helping to build up their skill and critical thinking. We are preparing students for a 21st century life, enabling them to think outside the box and being an advocate for themselves.
Purposefully designed. expertly crafted. Rigorously implemented.
Our ELA staff takes a great deal of care in planning and crafting their lessons. Before the year starts, our ELA department has already planned the entire year ahead. Each week, they meeting several times to refine and rethink what they are teaching and how students are learning. We use data to visualize and analyze how students are doing, whether they are understanding what they are learning, where they need support and so much more.
Debate Team
Our successful debate team wins awards, engages with other schools and loves to debate. However, this hard work takes place inside of our school. Starting in the debate team practice and extending into ELA classes, students have to push their thought process outside of the box. Our ELA department offers great supports in helping students to push their thinking to the next level. In turn, these debaters bring back a great deal of discussion skill into the classroom, leading their peers into doing the same. It is a powerful circle of learning and teaching that help all of our students and our school community.
